You can contribute to a new book and get a low cost copy for yourself!  We would love if you would pledge to our book and share with your friends!

How our book improves on what has been done:

  • Digital copies: Many books are not available on Kindle despite the fact that almost every graduate student has one.  Our book will be published first to Kindle
  • Stories from students with different outcomes: Most books that do have stories either just have one story and the majority of books generally are outlines.  These are hard for most people to relate to and infrequently shared
  • Pictures!  We will have as many pages of pictures as writing which will make reading more enjoyable and less like a textbook
  • Opportunity to have your story included in future editions: Share your story with us at http://prograd.us!

Pro Grad: Conclusive Education

Continuing your Education?? Millions of others are too and they are spending billions at law schools, medical schools, graduate schools, and more.  Learn from their mistakes and celebrate their triumphs. Read and share your story in future versions of the book! Pro Grad: Conclusive Education.

In your time as a graduate student, faculty, or staff, have you ever read a book that that had stories of graduate school experiences?  Chris and Jerry are collecting and sharing these stories in a new book that will cover everything from deciding to go to graduate school through retirement from a faculty position with a focus on the graduate student and career experience.  Our goal is to help people that wander into graduate school with no idea what to expect for the rest of their life (as most of us did) see that world of possibilities and challenges that await them.  If we can help one student start thinking about their career earlier, we will have you to thank.

We want stories that are personal, that involve success and failure, and that a reader will say: wow, that’s totally me.  A story that is honest and personal that describes any or all of your graduate school journey with a picture or two of yourself from that time is ideal.  Anonymous submissions are also accepted.  Please email your pictures and stories to Chris (cdonner@mail.usf.edu) and Jerry (banfield@mail.usf.edu) by July 1 2012 at 11:59pm.  We would prefer a word document with as much detail as you want to write.  If you would like, we can also share your story on our website at prograd.us.  We plan for this to be the first of many books and would love it if you shared this with colleague, friend, or family member that might have a story they want to share!

If you prefer bullet points, here’s what we are looking for:

·        Detailed graduate school story
·        Emailed to Chris (cdonner@mail.usf.edu) and Jerry (banfield@mail.usf.edu) in a word document
·         No later than July 1at 11:59 pm
·         Include pictures of yourself or a part of your experience that a reader can connect with
·         If you know someone with a good story, please share with them and use our social networking share icons here for convenience!
·         Topic ideas are available at prograd.us and we will post some stories that are submitted

Thank you very much for your support and we will hope to hear from you soon.

Mission:

This summer, we are writing a book that will share stories about graduate programs with the purpose of helping the many students entering graduate/professional programs succeed in both graduating and planning a successful career.  Many books have been published on this subject but they are mundane outlines not worth recommending.  We want to create a book that people will actually read, enjoy, and relate to in the form of short stories.  Whatever you want to write about is acceptable and the more stories you have the better!  Additionally, any pictures you have from that time in your life would help enhance the ability for readers to connect with you as the writer.  To submit your story, email banfield@mail.usf.edu.

We hope you will share as many stories as you have and encourage your friends to share theirs.  Please submit your story within two weeks of seeing this post.

Thank you very much for your support and we will hope to hear from you soon.
